Kingfisher Bay Resort, in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings, offers a rare eco-tourism experience. Hidden among tree-covered dunes on the edge of the calm waters of the Great Sandy Strait, it is a relaxing haven.

Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, is a miracle of nature. It is famous for its ancient rainforests, mighty sand dunes, pristine freshwater lakes and streams and an abundance of birds and wildlife. On the ocean side of the island, the sands of Seventy-Five Mile Beach stretch beyond the horizon.

All guests travelling via ferry to Kingfisher Bay Resort are advised to arrive at the Kingfisher Bay Resort Mainland Reception at least 40 minutes prior to departure time for check-in.

Secure car park facilities are adjacent to Kingfisher Bay River Heads Mainland Reception and are open from 08:00-18:30. Upon check-in at Mainland Reception, guests will be issued with a secure pin number to gain access to the parking facilities. Booking is highly recommended. Extra costs apply.

On demand return airport transfers between Hervey Bay Airport and Kingfisher Bay Mainland Reception can be arranged. Extra costs apply.

Getting There

Fraser Island lies off the Queensland coast, a four-hour drive north of the capital of Brisbane.

Kingfisher Passenger and Vehicle Ferry has 6 services to the resort each day from River Heads and return. This ferry has seating for 220 passengers on two decks with a fully licensed bar and snack food available. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes.

MEETING POINT FOR 4WD VEHICLE FERRY TRANSFER - Guests taking their own or hired 4WD vehicle to the resort is to collect the vehicle transfer ticket at the ticket hut adjacent to the ferry ramp at River Heads. All vehicles must check in and be ready to board the ferry 20 min prior to departure times. IMPORTANT NOTE: Pre-purchase of vehicle access permits is required for all vehicles entering the Great Sandy National Park. Vehicle ferry transfers rates DO NOT include vehicle access permit cost.  Permits may be obtained from River Heads Ticket office, at Kingfisher Bay Resort reception upon arrival and at Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service offices including Brisbane, Hervey bay, Maryborough, Bundaberg and Rainbow Beach. Vehicle access permits can also be purchased by calling 131304 or online at www.epa.qld.gov.au.
